The A1(M) is a short distance to the east as is the M6 to the west and provide speedy uncongested access to the district and the road network. Within the district there is an excellent bus service providing transport to a variety of destinations and also an abundance of reasonably priced taxis.
A regular rail service links Bishop Auckland on the western edge of Wear Valley to Darlington and beyond, providing links to the national rail network and enabling many parts of the UK to be easily reached. Newcastle International Airport and Durham Tees Valley International Airport are both located just a short distance away and boast regular services from and to a variety of UK and European destinations. Regular ferry services operate between Tyneside and European destinations such as Norway, Sweden, Belgium and The Netherlands.
Wear Valley, one of the three river valleys of the Durham Dales, is located just to the south west of Durham City and to the north west of Darlington, extending from the centre of County Durham to the heart of the North Pennines. You can reach the area remarkably easily by road, rail, sea and air.
